My story
I was born to swim – and I always knew that my life as a swimmer would help me realise my potential as a person.
As a junior, I did not achieve exceptional results. I only made my first national ‘age’ championships when I was 16. Hardly a prodigy, I made my first Australian Team at 21. I ultimately became a dual-Olympian (making a final in 2012), World Championship silver medallist, Commonwealth Games silver medallist (individual), World Short-Course silver medallist, and several medals as a relay swimmer.
Most importantly, I became a more confident, more resilient, more balanced, and happier person. These characteristics, always within my grasp but forged in the heat of competition and pursuit of excellence, remain part of me today.
Since retiring, I became an author, coach, board member, mother, and now run my own business. I am grateful for the lessons I learned as an athlete and want to put these experiences – good and bad – to use, to inspire the next generation of athletes to reach their potential. As athletes. As people.
